About artist

Rossella Sartorelli was born in Novi Ligure in the province of Alessandria (Italy) but has always lived in Tortona. A lover of drawing since childhood, Rossella distinguished herself at the first painting competitions and has never stopped painting. The artist has never rested on consolidated results, but eager for knowledge has continued to experiment and is characterised by the incessant search for new forms of expression, where the compositional game is underlined by a chromatic strength that arouses strong emotions. Starting out from a purely figurative matrix (her first uses of oil paint date back to the years between 1966 and 1968), over time her works have taken on decidedly abstract connotations until they reach the style that identifies her exclusive touch made up of chromatic research, the unfailing presence of circles and semicircles in the form of bubbles, igloos, hot-air balloons and other round shapes and harmonious lines that help us perceive vague figures, leaving ample room for subjective interpretation. If we want to arbitrarily place Sartorelli in a pictorial current, we could ascribe her to Abstract Realism, an oxymoron that implies the conciliation of opposites: in fact, the analysis intended as a poetic vision of figuration and the synthesis inherent in the investigation of abstraction coincide perfectly. The artist does not disdain to periodically dive back into pure figurative art, but at this time his creativity is dominated by tonal implications that are the weight and value of his abstractionism, about which he does not give rise to misunderstandings: "I have a direct relationship with colour, I would say almost physical, in mixing it, manipulating it, seeing it shine on the canvas. An index of existence, the colour processed through a liberating symbolism, the physical effect of a gesture that constitutes the backbone of the pictorial creation itself. The extraordinary artistic rendering denounces the analysis of a psychological refinement and mastery of handling the means of technique by transmitting pulsating emotions. The spontaneous brushstroke takes the place of a controlled rationality, so that the spectator enters into empathic communication with the colours in an even deeper way than the visual one.
Rossella Sartorelli has been very shy and shy for many years; it is only since 2014 that she has begun to participate in group shows, personal exhibitions and competitions. Genoa was the city that revealed the artist to the public with wide consensus, also participating in the Genoa Biennale in 2015 as well as many competitions and Fairs. Selected at the Biennale of Mantua, exhibited at Miit in Turin, in Florence, Milan, Voghera then again in Stuttgart and Berlin. The year 2016 she is the protagonist of three solo exhibitions in Tortona, Frosinone and Genoa and in 2019 she exhibits with a solo exhibition in the Pavia area in Voghera collecting great acclaim from the public and the critics. Rossella Sartorelli is published in the international yearbook of Contemporary Art Artists 2019 by editorial Mondadori and in the catalog Profili d'artista - Percorsi d'arte contemporanea by publishing house Satura.
