About artist

Antonella Murzilli was born on December 12, 1968 in Avezzano in the province of L'Aquila, in her beloved Abruzzo, where she had to endure the desperation of the post-earthquake. She tells us that her grandmother, a very important figure for her, remained under the rubble for a long time, and was saved by a miracle so much so that when she was found, a tool cut her long braid touching her head. Experiences, emotions and even premonitory visions that she imprints on the canvas. Antonella Murzilli is the mother of four children, the last of whom suffers from autism. Determined to find the best solution to give an optimal situation to her son, she decides to move to Baden Wuttenberg in Germany to enroll him in a specialized school to help him achieve his autonomy. She started out as a trompe l'oeil painter. Self-taught, in the '90s she was called to make interior decorations painting walls and ceilings taking inspiration from the sixteenth-century paintings of Leonardo and Michelangelo, still in the same Roman housing in Via Appia and Testaccio. Antonella's life is very troubled, marked by strong emotional experiences that she gradually transports to the canvas by composing images, shapes and colors because as Henry Ward Beecher says, "every artist dips his brush in his soul, and paints his own nature in his images. Antonella Murzilli has come to an impulsive and sudden expression that seeks to induce the viewer to experience new sensations, learning to listen to themselves. Today her vast repertoire is characterized by many nuances and can be divided into three sections. The magical and poetic landscapes and scenes of everyday life painted with purity and simplicity with a naive flavor. The art and the sacred where his madonnas with child refer to 'Byzantine iconography, unhinging the main features anti-naturalistic and antiplastic. The human figure of Antonella Murzilli although maintaining the distinctive Byzantine features is not dematerialized, but brings back to earth the divine. The informal develops in two ways: soft lines and rigid lines while the use of color follows a common philosophy. Between sinuous movements, warm colors and light. Antonella inserts the eyes, a recurring detail; it would seem a "Big Brother" on canvas, or an emotional metaphor: the eyes as a mirror of the soul. The paintings dedicated to cold tones are an exercise in geometry, square lines and regular shapes distend the observation so the viewer is led to see the purely beautiful. Antonella Murzilli stands out for the particularity of her painting, receiving wide interest in both Italian and international criticism.
