About artist

Emanuela Massena was born in Lamezia Terme, in the province of Catanzaro, and spent her childhood in Settimo Torinese. She currently lives and works in her studio in Ancona. Emanuela paints using different artistic techniques, a continuous search for new expressiveness that can represent what the artist defines as "the essence of life", creating an original language where she combines the figurative with fluid art and chian pull painting.
The subjects are often women's faces, created with deep and powerful chiaroscuros that Massena has the ability to capture their soul, through the expressions and signs on their faces. These are not real figures but symbolic ones, reflecting the many aspects of the female world. Figures represented with intense, lively colouring which, well outlined and marked, take on character, strength and positivity against a background of shades of grey. Here we discover a woman who in her pain does not lose hope, or the curious face of a little girl facing life, all reflected in the artist's positivity. The paintings are enriched with coloured sequences made using fluid art techniques, giving effects of movement and changing tones, which are intended to represent the paths and changes in life. In other works made on paper, the female face is outlined by black, decisive strokes crossed by colour fields that express naturalness and strength. Other elements, such as butterflies, are often present in the works, offering food for thought on the theme of freedom, which is fundamental to the artist. Freedom not only in the sense of expression but also in the sense of being able to fly high, above the dark moments of life such as suffering.
She has been painting with passion since she was a child and her talent soon came to light; in 1992 she began to exhibit her works in various exhibitions organised by ArteInsieme. Since 2008 she has taken part in numerous temporary exhibitions in Italy and abroad, including in 2008 "La forza nel colore", organised by the Rosso Cinabro Gallery in Rome. In 2009 in Turin exhibition entitled "Il gusto nell'Arte", in 2013 Artexpò Gallery in Cesenatico, Italy. Between 2020- 2021 Luxenburg Art Prize exhibition, Museum La Pinacoteca located in Grand Duchy - Luxembourg. In 2021 he will exhibit at the "Global Art" Prince Group Gallery in New York and a show in Miami. His works are featured in a rich bibliography and in critical texts, including in 2013 "I Maestri del Secolo" and in the catalogue "Effetto Arte" in collaboration with Paolo Levi.
