Potiche vase 33xh42 cm and thickness 9 cm. Of very original drum shape with gilded fins and neck.
Emperor Quianlong, of Manchu descent, was a victorious military leader, prolific poet and collector of ceramics, an art that flourished in his reign. A substantial portion of his collection is housed in London at the Percival David Foundation.
On one side of this very unusual porcelain vase is reproduced The Quianlong Emperor in armor on horseback as painted by the Italian Jesuit Giuseppe Castiglione (1688-1766).
