About artist

Carla Tomatis, aka Carlà was born in Asti in 1962, but lives in Mondovì where she has a gallery and art studio where she works and exhibits her works.

Self-taught, since she was a child shows a marked inclination towards art and especially a penchant for painting. Instinctive, she loves Picasso and Vincent van Gogh very much. Her first painting, of a Madonnina, made at the age of seven and which she jealously preserves. Carla often remembers when she went to her grandmother, who lived in the country, and amused herself by composing dolls with poor materials. Pumpkins, corn beards, flowers and branches to create even on the ground similar images that she showed proudly. She used the charcoal from the stove, the green of the leaves and the red of the roses in equal measure, growing up, experimenting with watercolor and oil and no less with acrylic on velvet, paper, cardboard and wood. It is in this way that, through the painted subjects, she still expresses her personal emotions and brings back to the canvas her experiences. In doing so she also uses other bases of support and objects such as furniture but also clothing such as coats, shoes, bags, leather and various objects. In this regard, in the Modern Art Catalogue n. 54, we read <<Carlà Tomatis gives a representation of her imagination that is artistically expressed between surreal figurative and informal material. (...) dynamism of the figures, rendered by fast and sure brushstrokes in which he creates movement and captures the fleeting moment to describe moments of poetry, where he finds his world again. An intimate world, in which one can also glimpse reminiscences of stories and lyrics fixed in the most important and significant moment (...)>>. Animated by the desire to leave a mark, the whimsical Piedmontese affirms with conviction that talent must always hunger for what surrounds it and share feelings and feelings so much that she declares that "Art is poetry and, as the writer expresses his emotions through words, my works are the visual expression and the daily reality of what makes me alive".  > Tomatis' art lives on sensations often between the dynamically provocative and the fantastic, between joy and sadness, in the vivacity of forms and tones.

Since 1980 he began to take part in various exhibitions, important his presence in 2015 at the Expò in Milan: on this occasion, received the recognition - bronze medal - of the Chinese public, is paid homage with the exhibition of two of his paintings in Shanghai. In the same year he exhibited at the Louvre together with the best creatives in the world. Dates back to 2016 the honorary degree awarded by the Accademia Santa Sara that proclaims her Doctor of Fine Arts. This is how she participated in international Collective exhibitions and personal satisfaction (two of her artistic works have become part of the Sgarbi collection).
